Pyridoxine Hydrochloride occurs as white or almost white, crystalline powder. It is stable in air, but is slowly affected by sunlight. Its solutions are acid to litmus, having a pH of about 3. One gram dissolves in 5 mL of water and in about 100 mL of alcohol. It is insoluble in ether. It melts at about 206° with some decomposition.
Vitamin B6 is used for the treatment of pellagra, vomiting in pregnancy, and peripheral neuritis caused by isoniazid. It is also used as a feed additive, a food additive, and also as a UV absorber added to cosmetics.
