Riboflavin is a yellow or orange-yellow, crystalline powder. It is very slightly soluble in water, practically insoluble in ethanol (96 per cent). Solutions deteriorate on exposure to light, especially in the presence of alkali.It shows polymorphism
Riboflavin is mainly used as a medicine, food additive and feed additive. In medicinal applications, it is used in multivitamin or vitamin B2 formulations and as a yellow colorant for sugar coated tablets and capsules. When used as a food additive, it has an effect of strengthening nutrition on the one hand and a yellow coloring agent on the other hand.
