L-Aspartic Acid occurs as white crystals or as a crystalline powder. It is slightly soluble in water, but insoluble in alcohol and in ether. It melts at about 270°.
Aspartic acid is the synthetic precursor of amino acids such as lysine, threonine, isoleucine, and methionine, as well as purine and pyrimidine bases. It can be used as a carrier of K+ and Mg2+ ions to transport electrolytes to the myocardium, thereby improving myocardial contractility and reducing oxygen consumption. It has a protective effect on the myocardium when the coronary circulatory disorder is hypoxic. It participates in the ornithine cycle, promotes the production of urea from oxygen and carbon dioxide, reduces the amount of nitrogen and carbon dioxide in the blood, enhances liver function, and relieves fatigue. L-Aspartic acid has a wide range of uses in medicine, food and chemical industries.
1) In medicine, it is the main component of amino acid preparations, and it is the synthetic raw material of L-aspartate potassium, magnesium, calcium, and asparagine. In medicine, it can be used as an antidote, liver function promoter and fatigue reliever.
2) In the food industry, L-aspartic acid is a good nutritional supplement, added to various refreshing drinks, and is the main raw material for the production of sugar substitute aspartame.
3) In the chemical industry, it can be used as a raw material for the manufacture of synthetic resins, used in large quantities for the synthesis of environmentally friendly materials polyaspartic acid, and can also be used as a nutritional additive in cosmetics.
4) L-Aspartic acid can also be used as a raw material for biochemical reagents, culture agents and organic synthesis intermediates, as well as a new sweetener aspartame (an amino acid sweetener suitable for diabetic patients).
