L-Aspartic Acid occurs as white crystals or as a crystalline powder. It is slightly soluble in water, but insoluble in alcohol and in ether. It melts at about 270°.
L-aspartic acid is used in the synthesis of sweeteners, used in the treatment of heart disease, as a liver function enhancer, an ammonia antidote, a fatigue-eliminating agent and an amino acid infusion component.
