Ammonium bicarbonate is a fine, white or almost white, crystalline powder or white or almost white crystals, slightly hygroscopic. It is freely soluble in water, practically insoluble in ethanol (96 per cent).
Ammonium bicarbonate is used as a nitrogen fertilizer for a variety of soils and provides both ammonium and carbon dioxide for crop growth. Also used as a high-grade food starter. It can be used as a raw material for a leavening agent such as bread, biscuits, and pancakes in combination with sodium bicarbonate.
