Description
Sulfamerazine is a white, yellowish-white or pinkish-white, crystalline powder or crystals. It is very slightly soluble in water, sparingly soluble in acetone, slightly soluble in alcohol, very slightly soluble in methylene chloride. It dissolves in solutions of alkali hydroxides and in dilute mineral acids. It melts at about 235 °C, with decomposition.
Application
Sulfamerazine is a sulfonamide antibiotic with similar effect to sulfadiazine, but it has high curative effect on infection caused by Streptococcus haemolyticus and pneumococcus, with faster absorption and less toxicity. It is suitable for pneumonia, erysipelas, meningitis and other diseases.
