Sulfadimidine is a white or almost white powder or crystals. It is very slightly soluble in water, soluble in acetone, slightly soluble in ethanol (96 per cent). It dissolves in solutions of alkali hydroxides and in dilute mineral acids. It melts at about 197 °C, with decomposition.
Sulfadimidine is a sulfonamide antibiotic, which is used to prevent and cure Staphylococcus and soluble streptococcus. It can inhibit hemolytic streptococcus and pleurisy coccus. It mainly treats avian cholera, typhoid fever and coccidiosis.
