Mefenamic acid is a white or almost white, microcrystalline powder. It is practically insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol (96 per cent) and in methylene chloride. It dissolves in dilute solutions of alkali hydroxides. It shows polymorphism.
Mefenamic acid is used in steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics for joint pain, headache, foot pain, dental disease and other inflammatory pains.
