Description
Pyrantel pamoate is a pale yellow or yellow powder. It is pratically insoluble in water, soluble in dimethyl sulphoxide, pratically insoluble in methanol.
Application
Pyrantel pamoate is a synthetic broad-spectrum, highly effective anthelmintic drug. It is a depolarizing neuromuscular blocker with obvious nicotinic activity. It also inhibits cholinesterase, which causes acetylcholine to accumulate, causing paralysis of the worms and excretion. In addition, it can make the worms single. The cells are depolarized, the frequency of peak potential is increased, and the muscle tension is also increased, causing the worm to lose its autonomic activity.
