Tetracycline is a yellow, crystalline powder. It is soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol (96 per cent), practically insoluble in acetone. It dissolves in solutions of alkali hydroxides and carbonates. Solutions in water become turbid on standing, owing to the precipitation of tetracycline.
Tetracycline Hydrochloride is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with bactericidal effect at high concentration. The first choice is to treat non-bacterial infections such as Chlamydia infection, Rickettsia disease, mycoplasma pneumonia and regression fever.
