Florfenicol is a white or almost white crystalline powder. It is very soluble in dimethylformamide, soluble in methanol, sparingly soluble in glacial acetic acid, very slightly soluble in water or in chloroform.
Florfenicol is a commonly used veterinary antibiotic with wide antibacterial spectrum, strong antibacterial effect and low minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Its antibacterial effect is 15-20 times higher than that of chloramphenicol and Thiamphenicol. The drug concentration in the tissue can reach the peak value 60 minutes after feed administration, which can quickly control the disease. It has the characteristics of high safety, non-toxic and no residue, and has no potential risk of aplastic anemia, It is safe and suitable for large-scale farms. It is mainly used for the treatment of bovine respiratory diseases caused by Pasteurella and Haemophilus. It has good curative effect on foot rot of cattle caused by Fusobacterium. It can also be used for infectious diseases of pigs and chickens caused by sensitive bacteria and bacterial diseases of fish.
Florfenicol is moderate in price and easy to be accepted by users. Because of these characteristics, florfenicol has been widely used, and has become the first choice for the prevention and treatment of respiratory and digestive tract bacterial infections in livestock and poultry.
Florfenicol should not be combined with quinolones, penicillins and cephalosporins, and should not be compatible with ampicillin, sulfonamides and furans.
