Rifampicin is a reddish-brown or brownish-red, crystalline powder. It is slightly soluble in water, soluble in methanol, slightly soluble in acetone and in ethanol (96 per cent).
Rifampicin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic drug belonging to the rifamycin family. It is mainly used to treat tuberculosis, meningitis and Staphylococcus aureus infections. External use can treat trachoma, etc.
